PROGRAMS
Discovery is a school offering classes for preschoolers, private kindergarteners, and jr. kindgergarteners as well as an Extended Day Program for these ages. In addition, we have a before and after school program for preschool public school K through second graders.
Preschool children must be 3 or 4 by October 31. Kindergarten children must be 5 by September 1. Jr. Kindergarten must be 5 by October 31.
CLASSES, DAYS, TIMES
We have 2, 3, or 5 day classes for 3 and 4 yr. olds. Children who are turning 3 between September 1 and October 31 may register for the ThF 3-yr. old class or the 5 day extended day class.
Two days classes are on ThF morning; the 3 day classes are on MTW mornings and the 5 day classes are MTWTF mornings.
While we believe that 4s benefit most from a 3 or 5 day class, we will offer one 2 day class for older 3s and 4s.
Preschool Classes meet from 08:40 - 11:20 a.m.
Enrichment
Enrichment is an integral part of the All Day PreK and Kindergarten Classes and an add on option for half day PreK.
Pre-K Plus Enrichment 08:40 a.m. - 1:40 p.m.
The heart of the program is the enhancement of creative expression and understanding through literature, drama, music, and the visual arts. How is it different from the regular classroom? Although the regular classroom includes the arts, Enrichment focuses solely on the arts.
Kindergarten / Jr. Kindergarten meets from 8:40 - 2:30. *Extended Day Option is also available.
*Extended Day Program for Preschool, Kindergarten, First & Second Graders
Preschool and Kindergarten children in the morning classes may arrive before school and stay for the afternoon. Public school kindergarteners, first and second graders may come before and after school. We open at 7:00 AM and close at 5:30 for Extended Day. Ask for Extended Day flyer.
PROJECT CHILD AND SUBSIDIZED SERVICES
Project CHILD is a state funded program for preschoolers who need an extra boost prior to kindergarten. Factors taken into consideration for recommending placement in this program include: (1) low income families who cannot afford preschool, (2) developmental delays in language, concepts or motor skills verified through screening, other testing, and observation or (3) referral from other professionals.
Subsidized Services providing Extended Day hours are available through government funding. Low income working (or student) parents of Project CHILD students are given priority. Tuition is on a sliding scale based on family income. A limited number of spaces are available.
SCHOOL CALENDAR AND HOLIDAYS
Discovery follows an academic calendar like the public schools, taking typical holiday breaks. We operate a 10 week summer program to serve full time Extended Day students. We close a few days between sessions (school year and summer).
